Part 25: The Days Of Revival (Sneak Peek)

Here is a sneak peek of my upcoming book “The Days Of Revival” which will be Part 25 of The Book Of Benjamin Kareth:

The Days Of Revival – Chapter Four – Rending Your Heart

God is Holy, set apart, from everything and everyone that is not in right-standing with Him.

He is majestic in His splendor…. Wait… stop there for a moment. Majestic? Splendor? Aren’t these King words that we don’t have any way to relate to?

In our modern world, at least in my culture, we have lost the majesty and the splendor of the kings of old have we not? We don’t have kings that have grand castles and absolute authority anymore on earth. We don’t have kings arrayed in jewels and gold and priceless gems sitting on high thrones holding our lives in their hands and at their whims. No… we’ve lost the wonder and the awe that once was a thing and now it is just not anything.

So how do we return to somewhere we have never been? How do we relate to a holy God who is high and lifted up, arrayed in splendor and majesty? Where is the awe? Where is the fear of Him who holds our eternal lives in His hands?

Pride fills us. It oozes out of our pores. It entitles us to our individual kingdoms and places us firmly on the thrones of our little lives. We’ve become so accustomed to it that we scarcely notice it. We go to church. Sit in the pews. Sings some songs and go about our days and weeks with not a second thought to God. Perhaps we didn’t notice that He was absent in the building we had just claimed to worship Him in. But we go on. Day after day. Rationalizing the lack of answers to our prayers. The dry sky is just another day to us when no clouds appear. How far we have fallen!

Revival. Yeah. Revival… we don’t just need a Revival but a resurrection… after a death… a much-needed death to ourselves. We need to rend our hearts and put our faces to the ground.

We need to wake up.

Have you ever grieved over your sins? Have you ever wept because you had a deep revelation of the goodness of God and the absolute darkness of your sin? Do you truly understand the salvation you claim as your own? Do you know the price He paid to buy you back and wipe your debt clean?

So many of us stay as far from God as possible. We love darkness more than the light, don’t we? If we came toward God, or maybe even believed in Him a little… He might ask us to live up to the teachings of Jesus. We might have to give up our secret sins. We might have to have our hypocrisy shown for what it is. We might have to give something up or give something away. We might not be comfortable anymore. God might ask us to serve Him in a way that we aren’t comfortable with. What would really happen if we truly turned to Him and let Him take a good hard look at us and show us the darkness lying deep in our hearts?

Today is a day to really sit and think about your life. Today is a day to really ask yourself if you know Jesus. Does your life reflect your beliefs? Does your heart rest because it knows it’s right with God?

Today is the day to make a choice. You are curious about this Revival thing. You know it’s something that people seek. So maybe you should seek it too. What can it give you? What can you get out of it?

The truth is… true and genuine revival doesn’t give you anything. It isn’t about you. It takes everything away from you and gives it to God.

Job had true revival. He lost everything. Scrapped his sores with broken pottery. And came face to face with Almighty God. Before He had just heard of Him, but after He truly saw Him. That is revival.

You will suffer and you will die. That part of you that stands will be brought low. The pride that rises up and justifies your sin will be humbled. All those little things in your life that you just allow will have to be removed. It’s time to Rend your heart.

What does it mean to Rend your heart? What does it mean to grieve over your sins?

Rend means to tear something in two or more pieces, it means to wrench something violently, and it means to cause great emotional pain.

It’s time to open your eyes. It’s time to wake up. It’s time to look at the blood on your hands and realize that it’s the blood of orphans and widows. And the bread in your mouth is rotten because of the vast wealth you’ve laid up for yourself here on earth… while Lazarus lies begging in the streets just beyond your door.

If you want to know God, the Holy God. You will have to get closer to Him. Guess what happens when light starts to fill up a room? All the dark corners get exposed. That’s Revival.

Read this, and then read it again:

“The law of the Lord is perfect (flawless), restoring and refreshing the soul; The statutes of the Lord are reliable and trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true, they are righteous altogether. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them Your servant is warned [reminded, illuminated, and instructed]; In keeping them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors or omissions? Acquit me of hidden (unconscious, unintended) faults. Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous (deliberate, willful) sins; Let them not rule and have control over me. Then I will be blameless (complete), And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable and pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, immovable] rock and my Redeemer.” – Psalms 19:7-14 AMP
