Vision #1 – The Coat Factory
B.P.K. – 10/31/2025
I opened my eyes and saw…
…a city, vast and thriving.
I found myself standing on a street within this city and what surprised me was that the roads had no cars. The “roads” that crisscrossed the city were not paved with asphalt but were instead gardens of all kinds of vibrant green vegetation. I walked along the sidewalks of the city admiring all the fruits, vegetables, flowers, vines, and trees I saw planets where there should have been roads and cars. It was incredibly beautiful. People were everywhere walking alongside of these gardens. I saw that some of the people were busy working in these gardens.
For a time, I watched as some tilled the ground.
For a time, I watched as some were planting seeds.
For a time, I watched as some were watering what had been planted by others.
For a time, I watched as some tended to the sprouting vegetation.
There were no cars here, everyone walked everywhere they went.
But this wasn’t a perfect city, as I became aware that there were many different classes of people living in the city.
I observed the ultra-wealthy preening about in luxury.
I observed the upper class going from their homes to their offices and back again.
I observed the middle class working, teaching, and living their comfortable lives.
I observed the lower class going about doing whatever they could do.
I observed the homeless on the streets of the city just existing.
“What is this place?” I asked.
The answer whispered within me was, “This is the city of the world.”
“I see.” I said.
I’m not sure how many days passed as I explored this vast city from one end of it to the other. Then I found myself standing outside a large warehouse-looking building. There were no signs on the building to label it or tell me what it was or what was within it.
As I stood and looked up at the structure I heard a whisper, “Go inside.”
I looked and saw a door built into one corner of the building, so I walked to it and entered it. I stepped into movement, motion, and sound. Everywhere I looked there were huge machines rumbling along fulfilling their designated tasks. I saw people too. So many people. All of them were working to keep the machines running. This was a place of production. I walked around slowly trying to understand all that I was seeing in that place. The inside of this building was far larger than I had expected it to be as I observed it from the street outside. This place was such a contrast to the garden filled streets outside.
None of those working within the factory spoke to me or even noticed me there. They were totally absorbed in their tasks. Then I finally understood what they were making, they were making coats of all kinds, from light fall coats to heavy winter coats. I saw also that the coats were of differing qualities. I saw some that looked as though they were made for the poor and I saw some that looked as though they were made for the rich.
“A coat factory?” I asked.
The answer whispered within me was, “Yes, a coat factory.”
I pondered this for a while standing amidst the ordered chaos of the factory flood.
A man walked up to me then and said, “Follow me.”
And so I followed him.
We wound our way back through the factory to the door through which I had entered and stepped back outside onto the streets. I followed the man as he walked along sidewalks, through alleys, and then finally to the very heart of this city. I saw ahead of us a tall building that rose into the sky beyond the clouds. The building seemed darker to me than the rest around it, as if the sun refused to shine on it.
As we approached the building, the man stopped walking, pointed to the building, and said, “Go now.”
So, I did.
I walked toward the building and found myself at two large doors that were opened to the street. There were two guards at the entrance, one on each side of the doors. I stood and watched.
Soon a man exited the tall building and began to walk down the street. He wore a luxurious coat, clearly he was wealthy. I watched him go wondering what I was supposed to do next.
Then it was as if the sky above me froze in an instant. Cold flooded the streets of the city and snow began to fall from the sky. I had never in my life seen such a quick change to an environment as I was observing then. Although I knew that it was cold and I saw the snow falling in buckets, I was not cold.
“Please sir, help me!” I heard a man cry out in the distance.
I ran now toward the sound of the cry and rounded a corner to see the man that had exited the tall building walking past a man lying on the street, clearly homeless.
“Please sir, help me!” The man laying on the ground cried out again, but the man in the luxurious coat walked right past him.
I could see the snow beginning to pile up everywhere as it fell. The snow was blanketing everything in its thick white powder. I watched for a time as the man strode off down the street leaving the man lying on the ground shivering.
I wanted to run to the man on the ground and help him, but as soon as that thought entered my mind the whisper came, “You are here to see.” And I knew it was true.
I went in the direction the man in the luxurious coat had gone.
“Please sir, help me!” I heard another cry in the distance.
I quickened my pace through the deepening snow and saw now a woman sitting on some steps to a house holding tightly to herself a child. I watched as the man in the luxurious coat passed right by her without even a sideways glance.
Doesn’t he see them? Why isn’t he helping them? Why was I seeing all this?
I followed after him.
He walked down street after street paying attention to no one as the snow fell from the sky and the icy winds blew. I was grateful I couldn’t feel the cold.
Then I saw in the distance where the man was going, the coat factory. He walked up to the door in the side of the building and entered it. I followed him inside.
It was then that I knew who he was. He was the owner of this place, that was so clear to me as I watched him go about the factory interacting with the people working there.
“That’s enough.” The whisper came and flowed around me.
…I let go and found myself returned.
