Vision #7: The River Ride

Vision #7: The River Ride

B.P.K. – 11/05/2025

I opened my eyes and saw…

…that I stood on a small island in the center of a wide river.

The island was only around 4 feet wide and about 6 feet long. It wasn’t firm beneath my bare feet but felt more like soft, squishy marsh. The river that flowed around the island was very wide to both sides of me. I stood facing upstream. It seemed that I balanced myself to keep myself from falling into the rushing waters of the river. The water was moving very quickly past me on both sides. It was a brownish color. I couldn’t see into it. I sensed and seemed to know that the river itself was filled with life of all kinds. I crouched down and placed my hand on the surface of the water. It was warm to my touch. I stood back up.

Along the banks of the river on both sides of me was solid jungle. The air was warm and humid around me. The sky was covered in thick clouds. I couldn’t see the sun. The only sounds that I could hear came from the distant jungle. I heard birds singing and monkeys calling to one another. I thought I heard the snort of a boar and the hiss of a serpent.

The island beneath my feet shifted as if it were alive. I sank a bit and found myself standing on a firm, bumpy surface. The island rose up and then I saw a huge head rising out of the water. I was standing on the back of a huge crocodile. It rose out of the water lifting me into the air on its back. It turned its head to the right and looked back at me with one of its large round black eyes. I wasn’t afraid of it. It blinked a few times and then it plunged its head back into the water and began to swim upriver. I stood firm on its back as it swayed back and forth. I felt like I was surfing the river.

I then saw ahead of me boats coming down the river. There were so many of them. A great caravan of boats. Each had a single motor pushing it downstream in the brown waters. There were people aboard the boats. They wore clothing from all the countries of the world. None seemed to notice the man riding on the back of a huge crocodile up the river past them. Were they blind? And the moment I thought the thought I knew that it was true. Every single person aboard the boats were blind.

“What is this I’m seeing?” I asked aloud.

I felt the crocodile swiften his swim through the waters.

There was no answer to my question, just a stillness that settled over the river. All the boats passed by me and vanished downriver. I rode on.

…I let go and found myself returned.
