A Glimpse Inside:

Chapter 4: The Whisper

When someone whispers to you, what do you do? Don’t you lean closer to better hear what they have to say?

God is always whispering to you.

God speaks in the stillness and quietness of time. God is Spirit, invisible to our human, natural eyes. He hides Himself so that we will seek Him and then as we seek Him, we will find Him. God is mystery.

When we speak of returning to God, we must first know of whom we are returning to. Who is this God that we must return to? What is He like? What does He want from us?

I am not a theologian. I have not studied at some university or seminary. I am a video game designer who spent most of my life living mindlessly for my own selfish pleasure until God broke into my world and claimed me as His own. So, with the understanding of who I am not, we can continue with who I am.

God has asked me to write this book for you, and so I obey. And therein lies His mystery. As far as humans are concerned, I am not qualified to do this, but as far as God is concerned I am.

And there I see His whisper. Do you?

God spoke the world into existence from nothing. Out of nothing. He simply spoke and it was. He created by speaking. His Words held the power, the ability to do, within them to accomplish the purpose for which He sent them out. He did not scream. He did not yell. He spoke.

Throughout this book as a means of necessity I am going to whisper to you of who God is. I will not shout or scream. I will not speak as one who has been educated by this world’s systems of education. I will simply whisper of what I know of who God is as He gives me the Words and the ability to do.

I feel the Holy Spirit in me right now. He is a blazing fire. He has flooded my spirit and is hovering here with me. Whispering to my spirit as I write.

Can you see it? Feel it? Hear it? The whisper.

It’s like the wind, isn’t it? Once called mystical but now simply called spiritual. That unseen quality of His Holy Words as they flow across the earth.

Come closer now. Listen as I whisper. And perhaps you’ll see God a little bit better and long to know Him more for yourself.

God gives and God takes away. He is fire and flame. He Is. He is as He has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ in His Word. Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I Am.”

Stretching out past beyond past and in this moment and stretching out beyond time He Is. No idol can contain Him. No thought express Him. No word describe Him. He Is.

Recently God showed me the idols I had made in my own mind of Him. I was appalled at the thought that I had set up idols and been worshiping them in my mind. Idols of who I had imagined He was. I broke them to pieces and shattered them. I ask God to remove them all from me and show me how to relate to Him. I had to let go of and give up all my pre-conceived ideas, knowledge, judgements, and my own wisdom of who I thought God was. I had to return to Him as a child. A clean slate if you will. After all this, then He began again… to renew my mind, my heart, and my will.

He told me to listen to His Word, the Bible as we call it today, the Word from start to finish. To be washed in and by it. And so, I have and am. I am amazed how much the Word cleanses me. God whispers throughout His Word of who He is.

So, will we listen? Will we get quiet and let Him speak? Like Elijah, will we wait until the flames, earthquakes, and winds pass by and then when we hear His still, small voice, will we approach and listen?

His whisper is all we need. Like a wave crashing on the shores of our broken and parched soul, His whisper is enough to restore us to life. He says, “Live.” And we do. Father, thank you that you always hear me. Today, in this moment, would you fill the person reading this with Your peace? Will you calm the storms of life that rage around them? Will you quiet their heart and mind so that they can hear your whisper? Will you fill them with your Holy Spirit? I ask this all in Jesus’ name. Amen!
