Chapter 13: Trained Up In The Way

In Proverbs is reads:

“Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it” – Proverbs 22:6 AMP

As I have been walking closely with God these past six years I have come to know Him more and more as my Father. My prayer has been:

“Father, train me up in the way I should go so that, when I am old, I will not depart from it.”

This has been the cry of my heart! I ask my Heavenly Father to train me up in His ways and to do His will… so that I will walk with Him and serve Him all the days of my life! I desire no other thing. I desire no other career or money or fame or fortune. I want only what God has prepared for me. He has taught me obedience to Him through what I have suffered. Like Christ I have been trained in righteousness by obedience and suffering. Consider this passage of scripture:

“Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.” – Hebrews 5:8

Ask God today to open the eyes of your heart to see the deep spiritual truth contained within this passage of His Word. I have come to love obeying God’s words to me. He has led me down a path I did not know… as this scripture reads:

“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.” – Isaiah 46:16

Hold tightly to these scriptures. Write them on the tablets of your heart, your whole being. Ask the Holy Spirit to make them real in your life today and all your days.

The past 6 years have been written down for you to see how God leads one who has obeyed Him. You’ll agree that the path He has taken me down was truly: “by ways they have not known” and “along unfamiliar paths”.

God leads and we follow. He goes before us and comes behind us. He is to our left and to our right. His Holy Spirit surrounds our every movement as He promised us. If only we would simply be aware of Him and walk with Him! Ask God to train you up in the ways you should walk so that when your days increase you will continue to walk with Him in holiness and righteousness having been trained in obedience through the suffering, He has allowed you to experience for His glory.

Chapter 18: Out Of The Heart The Mouth Speaks

Oh, how I love this scripture from God’s Word:

“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is recognized and judged by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. The good man, from his [inner] good treasure, brings out good things; and the evil man, from his [inner] evil treasure, brings out evil things. But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an accounting for every careless or useless word they speak. For by your words [reflecting your spiritual condition] you will be justified and acquitted of the guilt of sin; and by your words [rejecting Me] you will be condemned and sentenced.” – Matthew 12:33-37 AMP

Out of the mouth the heart speaks. What a scary thought! You can gauge the condition of a person’s heart by what comes out of their mouths… but remember… God alone can see the truth hidden in a person’s heart. He alone can judge someone because He alone can see who they really are.

If we are to become like little children, then we need to be soaking in God’s Word both day and night. We need to turn away from the popular entertainment of this world and turn to being filled repeatedly with God’s eternal Word. This action will fill our hearts with God… and then when we speak to others… faith and blessing will pour out to them.

What is the abundance of your heart? Do a search now of what you’ve stored up in your heart? Is it godly? Is it God’s Word? Or is it the worthless trash of this world? I must ask myself this often… and most often I find that I’ve allowed myself to feast on the deceptive foods and pleasures of this world instead of the Word of God. We must make the choice to feast on the Word of God. We must! It is difficult in this modern world of ours where everyone and everything points us to the fleeting pleasures of this world. But we must return to God and be filled with the bread that has come out of heaven, the very Word of God.
