Chapter 3: Armies Of The Lord

As you and I venture forth to accomplish the good works that God has preordained for us to do on this earth in our lifetimes we must ask God to open our eyes to see His army that surrounds us always. Remember Elisha and his servant:

“Elisha answered, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “Lord, please, open his eyes that he may see.” And the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha.” – 2 Kings 6:16-17 AMP

There is a temptation to forget what unseen fighting on our behalf all around us. God assigns His angels as ministering spirits to help those of us who will inherit salvation:

“Are not all the angels ministering spirits sent out [by God] to serve (accompany, protect) those who will inherit salvation? [Of course they are!]” – Hebrews 1:14 AMP

I have had many encounters with spiritual beings in my 42 years of life. From demons, to principalities, to guarding angels, and so on… I have encountered them and seen them with my spiritual eyes. I have shared many of these stories within the pages of this book series.

Angels and demons are described many times in the Word Of God and so we know that they are real. They have many roles: guardians, messengers, and heralds to name a few. God assigns them to us.

We are surrounded by our guardian angels who fight for us against the spiritual forces of darkness in this world. All this work is mostly hidden from us, and I think there is a reason for this. God protects us in this life from things that would be difficult for us to process… and that would hinder or distract us from where our focus should be.

Thinking about my encounters with both angels and demons, there has always been the veil between me and the spiritual world. I can see them and know what they are, but that vision is dim. I write periodically about them in this book series… when God instructs me to do so. But I do not think that this should be our focus in this life. Some make spiritual warfare a full-time ministry, but I cannot speak to that… it’s not within the bounds of my experience or calling.

What I can tell you is that we are instructed to prepare ourselves by putting on the full armor of God, which we will explore in this devotional at length, and we are to pray always and in every circumstance. Angels and demons are real. We are to walk before God doing what He has called us to do. We are to be aware of the spiritual forces around us. These things I know to be true.
