November 15th, 2022 – 5:12pm – Haifa Hostel, Haifa, Israel:
This morning before my Hebrew class I was talking with my teacher Ms. Mor… and she said something that I really loved. We were talking about learning Hebrew and I was musing about the Hebrew I had learnt and about the parts that I was struggling with. She has studied and speaks many languages, I believe it’s seven. And so she said that the way she looks at learning languages is that whatever you’ve learned in yours now and can’t be taken away from you it can only be added to.
I pondered this most of the morning. And it strikes me that this is how our journey through life is as well. We are all given a certain number of days by God. Before we are born He has decided the exact number… He knows the day we would be born into the world and He knows the exact moment of our death and entry into eternity.
So it really is time to wake up… and take stock of our lives. It is time to rub the sleep from our eyes, for us to turn off the tv and step away from our phones, and take a good hard look at how we are using the days God has given to us as a gift. Each one is really precious… invaluable and only given once. And we will all give an account for how we spent our days… how we loved those around us… how we chose to seek God or how we chose to run from Him. What we gain in our seeking of God we cannot ever lose. I am so convinced of this… by my own personal experience.
There is a difference between listening and hearing. Listening is the sound passing into the ear… but hearing is the sound entering into your heart. One is easily stolen away but the other is eternal.
It is correct English for God to say to me to “listen and obey.” But what He meant and what I received four and half years ago was, “Hear my Word and then obey it.” And with every single Word that comes from the mouth of God also comes the ability and power to obey that Word. The power, the ability to do, is contained in His Word. And so it is with every Word Jesus said and that is written in the Word, every single Word has the power to obey that Word contained in it.
Take a moment… find a passage… read it… and then… hear it. You’ll feel the power in it I’m very sure… and you’ll feel Him speaking. It’s like a mighty wind that you can, if you choose to, extend your “spiritual sails” and be carried away by His Word into a new realm of living with and for Him. And what you gain, by hearing, you gain eternally and it can never be taken from you. What He gives… He gives forever. I see this in His gift of life He gave me. It wasn’t a momentary, time-contained gift, no… it was an eternal gift. Every human will exist forever, either with Him or without Him. So hear Him today and do something about it.
Give that cup of cold water to someone… start small… start with 10 minutes… with Him. It’s amazing how even in the smallest choice of choosing Him we find the strength to walk further and further. To him who has even more will be given… but to him who doesn’t have… even what he has will be taken from him. What great mysteries!
I pray that the God of all hope with fill you with understanding, not of religion, no, but of Himself and the continual revelation of who He really is and who He created you to be.
