“And Then I Saw”

I was walking with the Lord and I saw someone along the way singing a beautiful song.

And “Oh,” I said, “If only I could sing beautiful songs to worship You like them.”

“No.” The Lord said. “I have not given you a voice to sing.”

So, we continued walking, the Lord and I together. We talked about many things: this and that. We laughed and He showed me the wonders He had made along the way. And then I saw someone preaching a mighty sermon from a pulpit.

And “Oh,” I said, “If only I could preach might sermons for You just imagine all the people I could reach with Your Word.”

“No.” The Lord said, “I have not given you the voice to preach.”

So, we continued walking, the Lord and I together. We talked about many things. This and that. We laughed and He showed me the wonders He had made along the way. Then I saw a man with his wife and children playing together.

And “Oh,” I said, “If only I had a wife, and kids, and a family. I could raise them up to sing and preach for You.”

“No,” The Lord said, “I have not given you a wife or children.”

So, we continued walking, the Lord and I together. We talked about many things. This and that. We laughed and He showed me the wonders He had made along the way.

And then I thought again of the singer, and of the preacher, and of the family playing.

And “Oh,” I said, “Why Lord do all these others have something to give you and I do not?”

The Lord stopped walking and turned to Me. He looked me deep in the eyes and said, “I have not given you those things because I have given you Myself. Haven’t we been walking this whole time together? Haven’t we been talking? Haven’t we been enjoying each other’s company? Haven’t I been showing you all the wonderful things My hands have made? Haven’t we been laughing?”

And “Oh,” I asked, “Is that enough for You?”

The Lord smiled and replied, “It is.”
