Vision #8: The Valley Of Thorns
B.P.K. – 11/06/2025
I opened my eyes and saw…
…a deep valley below me stretching out as far as I could see.
I heard a voice behind me say, “Walk down into this valley.”
I obeyed.
I saw that there was an entrance to a narrow path ahead of me that led downwards. I walked to it and down it. It was cut out of the walls of the cliff and was barely wide enough to fit into. To my left and to my right the walls of the path rose straight up leaving me about four inches of clearance on both sides. These walls were perfectly flat, made from solid stone. I walked on. It path turned to the left and then turned to the right and then to the left again. The sky was now far overhead of me, the sunlight barely reaching the path I walked on. The ground I walked on was smooth stone, not a pebble out of place. I walked until soon I could no longer see the sky above me and the light around me became twilight. I turned a corner and saw that the exit of this path was ahead of me now. I ran to it, desperate to me out of this confining and claustrophobic trail way.
I reached the exit and stepped out into the valley.
My heart sank. From cliff face to cliff face, the valley was covered in twisting thorn bushes. I would call them brambles or perhaps briar patches. I walked toward them and stood in front of them.
I looked to the left and saw no pathway through them.
I looked to the right and saw no pathway through them.
I looked back and saw that the path I had taken to reach this valley was no longer there. The wall behind me was solid and rose straight up into the air.
“What do I do now?” I asked aloud.
I waited.
A breeze blew down past me into the valley and rustled the thorny briar patches in front of me with its passing. Was that a sign? Was I supposed to somehow go into them? To somehow pass through them?
I fell to my knees and despair swallowed me. I wept. I howled my tears to the sky. I hated this place as much as I had hated the path that had brought me down here. I cried to the sky asking for deliverance. I screamed to be taken away from that place.
“Let this vision end!” I shouted, angry now at being in this place.
I stood and walked to the wall on the left and found it a vertical cliff with no exits.
I walked to the wall that had been on my right side and found it a vertical cliff with no exits.
The wall by which I had entered the valley was a vertical cliff with no exits the whole way across.
The only way forward was through the thorny briars. I walked back to the center of the valley and faced the briars. They stood taller than I by at least a couple of feet. I lifted a hand above my head and found that they did, in fact, rise up far above where I could even reach.
“Why are you standing there?” The whisper came in a wind that blew down from the cliff behind me. “Go now. Cross the valley.”
“How?” I felt stupid to ask but saw no way forward.
“You obey.” The whisper said as it passed by me and went through the briar patches moving them with its passing.
I took a deep breath and said, “I obey.”
I took a step and the briars moved away from me.
I took another step forward. The briar patches in front of me moved further away from me.
Now the beginnings of a path had formed in the wall of thorns.
I smiled to myself. “Could it be this easy?” I said.
I began to walk straight down the center of the valley. As I walked the thorny briars moved out of my way and I walked forward unhindered. I could now see a bright light at the far end of the valley.
I broke into a run and let out a shout of victory.
…I let go and found myself returned.
